Lamahatta is a small eco-tourism village on the road between Darjeeling and Kalimpong, about 12 km from Dawaipani. Tall pines, a neatly terraced garden and rows of prayer flags make it one of the prettiest short stops in the Darjeeling hills.
What to see in Lamahatta
Stroll through the Lamahatta Eco Park and its seasonal flower beds, then take the short hike up to the hilltop lake, which locals hold sacred. On the way you get sweeping views over the Teesta valley.
Tips
Go in the morning for clearer views and fewer people. The hike is gentle but uphill, so wear comfortable shoes.
