Rinchenpong Monastery, built around 1730, is one of the oldest monasteries in Sikkim. It sits in a quiet forest setting above Rinchenpong village, and its prayer hall holds a rare statue of the Adi Buddha, which sets it apart from most monasteries in the region.
Visiting the monastery
Walk up in the morning when the light is soft and the grounds are peaceful. Take your time with the murals and the statue, and follow the monks’ lead on where you can go and take photos.

Dress modestly and walk clockwise around the chortens. The monastery pairs well with Resum Monastery and Poison Lake.
