Latpanchar is a small village on the edge of the Mahananda Wildlife Sanctuary, and for birdwatchers it is one of the best places in North Bengal. The big draw is the rare rufous-necked hornbill, but the forest is busy with many other species too.
Birding in Latpanchar
Head out early in the morning with a local guide who knows where the hornbills feed. Even if they stay hidden, the views over the Teesta valley and the calm of the forest make the trip worthwhile.

Carry binoculars and wear muted colours. Latpanchar combines easily with Sittong, Mungpoo and Ahaldhara View Point.
